The Atriums Senior Living Resident Spotlight: Betty Sherk

Rising in the Overland Park skyline, The Atriums is hard to miss. The design of our building lends itself to light, airiness and openness.

That’s what appealed to resident Betty Sherk, when she first moved here. Betty loves the brightness found everywhere in The Atriums. Our community was remodeled in 2018 to showcase contemporary comfort. It’s defined by its splendid, naturally lit indoor courtyard and spacious gathering areas. Beautifully transformed, The Atriums now features new luxurious amenities and appointments reflective of our Johnson County location.

Favorite Activities

Betty also enjoys the variety of onsite activities and the multitude of off-site bus trips to interesting performances and events. Past day trips at The Atriums have included scenic and holiday tours, plus casino outings.

Our sparkling-new swimming pool is particularly appealing to Betty because she is fond of swimming. Socializing at the many entertainment events and our fabulous happy hours are other favorite choices.

She stays busy walking and knitting as well. She tried her hand at the pottery wheel and discovered she loved throwing pottery. For seven years after that, she sold her artwork at The Plaza Art Fair.

All About Betty

Betty grew up in Pennsylvania and has lived in seven different states and also a small community north of Mexico City.  She has lived at The Atriums for a year and a half. She and her husband John moved here from California after they became ill and needed Assisted Living to recover. They became so fond of The Atriums, they decided to stay here permanently to be near their daughter Molly.

Betty has a strong connection with people. That’s what propelled her to volunteer at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Head Start.  In fact, she was so dedicated to her volunteer job at Children’s Mercy that she showed up on April 4, 1968, the day Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.

Betty says she loves people.  When we asked her friends how they would describe this happy resident, they said, “caring, funny and loving.”  Here’s to Betty!
